Types of viruses (2)

Continuing with the previous post, we will discuss a few more types of viruses today.

Worms: These dangerous viruses are capable of duplicating themselves and reaching to computers other than yours through e-mails and networks. They can read your address book and spread themselves to other computers.

File-infecting virus: This virus changes the entire code or a part of the code of an executable file such as a file with the extension .com or .exe. The infected files when run can damage your computer system.

Stealth virus: When a virus infects a system, it makes changes in some important area of the computer. A stealth virus not only makes changes but also makes sure that the changes are not visible. The stealth virus is capable of hiding any changes it makes in the computer, thus making it difficult for someone to figure out the possibility of a virus contamination.

Polymorphic viruses: Multiple copies of a virus is made that are disguised to look different so that it becomes difficult to detect one version’s presence by knowing another version of the virus. Thus, polymorphic viruses are essentially the same but morphed into different forms. A mutation engine is used to make different versions of the same virus.

When your computer repair service team turns up for virus removal, make sure you inform them about any suspected source of contamination.
