In the last two posts, we looked at some computer tips that may come handy every now and then. Typically, an onsite IT technician or a computer doctor will not help you with regular computer usage tips. It is good to be equipped with as much information as you can. We bring to you another good tip today.

How to choose what programs should start during computer boot-up
Windows provides an option called ‘selective startup’. Through this option you can decide which programs and applications should start when the computer starts. This helps improve your computer’s boot-up speed and overall performance.

The steps for choosing a selective startup are listed below.
1. Click the Start button.
2. Click the Run option.
3. Type ‘msconfig’ in the dialog box.
4. Click the OK button.
5. In the General tab, select the Selective Startup option.
6. Select the Startup tab.
7. Uncheck the programs you do not want to start when the computer boots up.
8. Click the OK button.
9. Click the Restart button. Make sure that all the other applications are closed and the data is saved before you click the button.

You will get a dialog box when the computer restarts. Check the checkbox and click the OK button in the dialog box. This will ensure that the dialog box does not appear every time you start the system.
