Continuing with yesterday’s post, we will explain some computer networking jargon in the layman’s terms.

LAN

When you form a network of computers at home, it is a Local Area Network or LAN. A local area network of computers is the one that is formed in home, within a building, or at a small office.

WAN

WAN is an acronym for Wide Area Network. As its expansion suggests, WAN covers a big geographical area such as a city, state, or a country. Internet is the biggest WAN.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is an acronym for Wireless Fidelity. Wi-Fi is a wireless LAN technology that follows the specifications laid out in IEEE’s 802.11 standard.

Protocol

A protocol in networking refers to the rules of communication between network devices.
